Dr. Joseph Caruso
Professor Caruso is author of about 330 publications (ca. 8000 citations) and coauthor of 5 books; has given more than 300 invited lectures, authored and co-authored more than 400 conference presentations and has supervised about 70 Ph.D. students. JAC is a member of editorial or advisory boards for Spectrochimica Acta B, Canadian Journal of Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy and Journal of Analytical and Atomic Spectrometry and recently left the Editorial Board Chair position for the latter. His research interests include metal profiling in clinical samples, enhancing plant chemistries for environmental remediation purposes, and developing methods for P based functional group compounds from warfare agents to phosphoproteins. These projects require chromatographically coupled atomic spectrometric techniques (to determine the elemental forms) and point toward compounds containing As, Se, I, Br, Hg, P and/or S. Plasma mass spectrometry is also used in tandem with molecular spectrometric methods to identify and quantify from small to large molecules.
